Officers were called to the 13000 block of Pennypacker Lane in Chantilly to investigate a reported domestic-related shooting around 6 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, Fairfax County Police Capt. Kent Bailey said.
Upon arrival, they found the woman who was declared dead at the scene, and her husband was taken into custody, officials said.
Neither has been identified.
It is believed that the man shot her during an argument, according to Bailey. He also noted there is no threat to the public.
The couple's daughter was the one who called in the shooting.
The circumstances surrounding the argument that led to the deadly shooting are unclear, Bailey said.
Detectives are expected to remain at the scene through the afternoon as the investigation into the fatal shooting continues.
Both the husband and daughter are being questioned as detectives continue to probe the shooting.
Potential charges are pending, police said.
